Toyota HiAce For Sale

The Toyota HiAce, commonly called simply the Hiace, is Toyota’s most successful light commercial vehicle to date. Introduced in 1967, it’s now in the sixth generation of production. The first HiAce, called the H10, ran between 1967 and 1977, and was offered as a one-box van with four or five doors, or a two-door pickup truck. Its cab-over design, with the engine beneath the front row of seats resulted in excellent space and allowed the dinky H10 to carry up to eight adults in Japan. The cab-over design would remain for much of the vehicle’s lifespan.

In 1977, the second-generation HiAce came. It sported streamlined styling, single circular headlamps and a more modern body shape. It grew in length and gained a frugal diesel engine option, too. Now, buyers could opt for a double-cab-style pickup (still cabover, though), as well as long-wheelbase and high-roof commuter vans that could accommodate up to 15 occupants. 

The third generation of 1982 retained much of these characteristics, and brought edgier, boxier styling with stacked rectangular headlamps. The double cab was dropped, but other body styles continued. In South Africa, this generation was made until 2007! Meanwhile, 1989 saw the fourth generation appear with more rounded styling and updated engines. A pickup truck was no longer available, as the Hilux would handle this market. A special variant called the HiMedic was created for ambulance use and came with a 4.0-liter V8 from the Toyota Celsior! Fourth-generation production ended in 2004.

The fifth generation took over in 2004 and is still produced in some markets. It brought vastly modernized technology, a more futuristic shape, and a revamped interior to the HiAce. The fifth generation continues to be sold alongside the 2019-debuted sixth generation, which is the first HiAce to depart from the cabover body style, in favor of a more minivan-esque shape.
