Lexus GS300 For Sale
The Lexus GS300 is a model from the Lexus GS model line-up. Produced over four generations, the GS series also went under the Toyota Aristo nameplate in Japan. The GS is a rear-wheel drive midsize performance sedan. Traditionally coming with six-cylinder engines, V8s were also offered.
The first generation of GS300 came out in 1991. It featured a naturally aspirated variant of the famous 2JZ 3.0-liter in-line six, making 227 horsepower. The GS300 could be fitted with a Nakamichi premium sound system, a moonroof, and a 12-disc CD changer. Meanwhile, in Japan, its Aristo alter-ego was offered with a turbocharged 2JZ, as well as a V8.
The second generation GS300 came in 1997. It featured the same engine as the previous generation, but North America now got a GS400 as well, with a 4.0-liter V8 that made 300 horsepower. Meanwhile, the Japanese Aristo continued with the turbo 2JZ, now making nearly 280 horsepower. This generation of GS won Motor Trend’s Car Of The Year award in 1998.
The third generation was introduced in 2005. It offered V6 and V8 engines. The GS300 came with a new 3.0-liter 3GS-FSE direct-injection engine that made 252 horsepower. More powerful variants included the GS430 and GS460, with V8 power. There was no longer a turbo engine on offer – either in Japan or overseas, but a hybrid made an appearance instead.
The fourth generation of the GS would be its last. The new range-topper would be the GS F, with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 that made 471 horsepower at 7,100rpm. The hybrid GS450h was next in the hierarchy, with 343 horsepower. The GS300 was now known as the GS300h and used a hybrid powertrain. Sadly, Lexus announced in 2010 that the GS would be discontinued worldwide. Meanwhile, the Aristo had been discontinued in 2005.
