Toyota Chaser For Sale
One of the triplet cars, the Toyota Chaser is widely known as a sibling of the Toyota Mark II and Toyota Cresta. Produced over six generations, the Chaser and its siblings are considered to be smaller luxury cars than the Toyota Crown. They offer many of the same conveniences in a smaller package that is cheaper to insure and run. The first generation dropped in 1977 and came as a sedan or coupe only. However, it was short-lived as the styling was from the current Mark II, with tweaks to the front and rear end.
By 1980, the second generation was introduced and featured more modern styling, plus more powerful six-cylinder engine choices. It was only offered as a four-door sedan, or a four-door hardtop. This would continue into 1984’s third generation, which now could be had with a turbocharged engine for better performance.
The fourth generation came in 1988 and once again saw a significant styling redesign. However, it would also receive the legendary 1JZ-GTE twin-turbocharged in-line six that was present in the Supra at the same time. That, coupled with the rear-wheel-drive platform made the Chaser an ideal car for the enthusiast with family transportation needs to satisfy as well.
The fifth generation dropped for 1992, and saw redesigned styling once again. The interior was even more luxurious. There was a new trim called Tourer V, which saw the legendary 1JZ-GTE doing duty under the hood.
The sixth generation of 1996 would be the last Chaser, and it did come with the 1JZ-GTE in some trims. Toyota’s newer VVT engines made an appearance, as did the automaker’s electronically-controlled automatic transmission. Buyers could also have an all-wheel-drive Chaser if desired. The sixth generation continued until 2001, when it was replaced by the Verossa.
