Honda Acty For Sale
Kei cars are some of the smallest vehicles in the world, and the Honda Acty shows that this diminutive class can be used for commercial purposes too. Produced between 1977 and 2021, the Acty came as a cab-over microvan or a kei truck. The name Acty is basically a shortened form of Activity. This little vehicle is well-known for its mid-engined rear-wheel drive configuration, which continued across all four generations. Four-wheel drive was also available.
The first generation debuted in 1977 and came with a dinky 545cc 2-cylinder engine, with around 30 horsepower for export versions. Buyers were offered manual or automatic transmissions. Despite the modest power, the truck weighed around 1,300 pounds empty. In 1983, the first four-wheel drive variant was introduced.
The second generation came in 1988 and would see a larger 656cc 3-cylinder engine offered. The larger engine meant that the Acty could now top 70mph in two-wheel drive guise. The top speed in four-wheel drive form was around 65mph. Creature comforts available included air conditioning and a radio.
The third generation was introduced in 1999. It vastly freshened up the styling of the vehicle which was showing its age. Due to changes in Japanese safety regulations, the Acty was no longer a cab-over vehicle. Instead, the driver’s cabin was pushed backwards, but the mid-engined layout remained. The engine could now rev to 7,000rpm, and make 52 horsepower. This enhanced payload capacity to around 440 pounds. There was also a four-wheel drive variant with a differential lock, aimed at farm use.
The fourth generation debuted in 2009, and it would run until 2021, when the Acty would bid goodbye to the world. This used the same engine from the third generation but received a shortened wheelbase to improve the vehicle’s turning circle. Otherwise, there weren’t a whole lot of changes. The Acty was discontinued in 2021 due to increasingly stringent emissions regulations, plus mandatory safety equipment that wouldn’t be commercially viable for this little truck.
