Introduced in 1998, The Toyota Altezza RS200 perched itself among greats in the luxury sport sedan market of the late 90’s. Focusing on a more sporty path however, Toyota offered examples like this 1999 Altezza RS200 with a six speed manual and a BEAMS 2.0L 4-cylinder engine focused on providing a comfortable and inviting driving experience. Gaining familiarity with fans more accustomed to the IS200 and IS300 sold outside of Japan, this Altezza is a perfect fit for those looking for a simple, yet remarkable sedan.

Under the hood of this RS200 and introduced in the late 90’s, the Toyota 3S-GE “Blacktop” BEAMS (Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System) was developed with a somewhat simple solution to providing more power while remaining naturally aspirated. The BEAMS featured VVTI on both cams allowing more airflow in, and more exhaust pressure out. With this development, horsepower sat comfortably at 207 with 6 speed manual examples such as this, and 160 ft-lbs of torque.

This example has remained largely untouched with only Enkei Racing NT03+ wheels equipped along with aftermarket Tein adjustable height coilovers. Though not original, Toyota limited the production of these 576 Solar Yellow Altezza’s to less than 1,000 units, making this example a budget friendly option for those looking to get into an Altezza that’s finished in a stand-out color.

Inside, the Altezza speaks for itself. Seats are comfortable and feature a subtle black and grey pattern color scheme in both front and rear, while grey accents decorate the trim all over. Climate controls are simple and easy to operate and this example features a Carrozzeria head unit installed while in Japan. A highly distinguished element, the cluster features a display that mimics the look of a designer watch with temperature, voltage, and pressure gauges sitting behind the largest gauge, the speedometer.

It’s no secret the IS300 has been a popular pick within the drift community, a star in the stance scene, and driven by enthusiasts countless times into the High Mile Club, while this speaks for the reliability of the IS300, low mileage examples of the Altezza are great way to get one of the best bang-for-buck Toyotas out there. The benefits of the Altezza for the car enthusiast are nearly endless, world renowned Toyota reliability, a 6 speed manual, RWD, a simple to maintain engine, along with the practicality of a 4 door sedan, and good looks to top it all off, you’d be hard pressed to find another option that checks so many boxes.
