Vehicle Description

5 speed manual 73,286 verified miles 657cc F6A Aftermarket Intake Aftermarket Blow Off Valve Gears Catch Can Volk TE37 Wheels MOMO Steering Wheel Kenwood Head Unit Cold A/C Hot Heat RWD Of all of the unique vehicles to come from Japan during the golden automotive era of the mid-90’s, its hard to top the Mazda Autozam AZ-1. With its gullwing style doors, a small but mighty 3 Cylinder Turbocharged engine, and a look that is all its own, the Autozam is still an eye-catching exotic to this day. With limited quantities built at just under 5,000 units inclusive of its twin, the Suzuki Cara, these are an extreme rarity to get stateside. Positioned over the rear axle, the turbocharged DOHC Suzuki F6A powers the AZ-1 with 63 horsepower, delivered through a 5-speed manual to the rear wheels. While power may seem modest, a curb weight of just 1,587 lbs means the AZ-1 still moves like a full sized sports car and makes this kei-sized exotic feel like a street-legal go-kart. The 660cc three-cylinder not only provides lively performance but also delivers an unmistakable soundtrack throughout the rev range, thanks to an aftermarket intake and blow-off valve. Sitting inside, you’ll find interior space is unsurprisingly snug but with sliding fixed-back bucket seats, being tall won’t keep you from being able to comfortably enjoy driving this unique machine. Unlike most other kei cars however, the AZ-1 comes with A/C, heat, and audio in the front meaning long drives won’t feel like an errand. Without a doubt though, the highlight of the AZ-1 is it’s exterior. Gullwing doors are a unique, stand-out feature that only a handful of other cars could offer. While this example is relatively stock outside with no aero changes, tasteful, classic, and era-correct Volk TE37 wheels sit in all 4 corners and compliment the sporty nature of this mid-engine minicar. It’s easy to see why the AZ-1 catches the eye of anyone near. A drivable Micro-Machine, the Autozam stands out like a miniature supercar but without the supercar price-tag. Parking is easy, and when the time comes to park at your local car show, you may find more fans of quirky little Mazda than the six-figure supercar next to you.
